Das Gemälde zeigt eine grüne Landschaft in der Lüneburger Heide, die am oberen Bildrand von einem Wald begrenzt ist. Auf der ebenen Fläche sind drei Rehe zu sehen, von denen eines äst. Das Bild ist in kräftigen Grüntönen gehalten und mit grobem Pinselstrich ausgeführt.
