Das Gemälde zeigt eine Alm vor der Kampenwand mit Blick auf den Chiemsee. Die Sennerin, barfuß vor der Berghütte kniend, melkt eine Kuh. Vor der Hütte ist Brennholz aufgestapelt und den Innenraum erhellt das Feuer am Herd. Im Hintergrund sind weitere Kühe zu erkennen, die auf dem steil abfallenden Hang weiden. Neben der Sennerin liegt ein Ziegenbock. Rechts unten im Bild befindet sich ein Wassertrog, umgeben von zahlreichen Pflanzen.
