Tempera on card.

Signed and dated lower right: "Georges Rouault 1916".

Accompanied by an expert’s report by Isabelle Rouault, in copy.

From the two bottom corners of the painting a brown path stretches along some houses and a church to a large ultramarine blue field, which may be interpreted as the sea with an exaggerated curvature of the earth, arching upwards over the horizon, in front of gently rolling fields. Three figures are depicted on the path, up close with their feet seemingly almost touching the lower edge of the painting.
