Die Darstellung bezieht sich auf die Bibelstelle Ezechiel 37,1-14, die berichtet, dass Ezechiel (Gott möge kräftigen), hier rechts vorn im Bildfeld, die Herrlichkeit Gottes gesehen haben soll bzw. die Vision eines göttlichen Thronwagens hatte. Im Judentum, wo nicht einmal der Name Gottes geschrieben werden darf, war dem gewöhnlichen Volk auch das Lesen dieser Bibelstelle untersagt. Es gibt anderseits gerade im Alten Testament zahlreiche Szenen, in denen sich Gott den Menschen direkt offenbart. Es beginnt schon im Paradies, später bei Noah, bei Abraham, Isaak oder Josef und mehrmals bei Moses.

Ezechiel war ein Priester, der mit der ersten Verbannung 597 v. Chr. nach Babylon deportiert wurde und dort von 593 bis ca. 571 gewirkt hat. (1351691) (13)
