Die Darstellung der Judith mit dem Haupt des Holofernes wurde in Werken der abendländischen Kunst in zahlreichen Variationen thematisiert. Die schöne Heldin steht für Mut und aufopferungsvolle Taten und war somit ein beliebtes Sujet der Kunst seit dem Mittelalter. Judith im Bildzentrum in blauem Gewand, das Schwert in der rechten Hand, mit ihrer Linken hält sie Holofernes an seinem Haar. Ihre Blick gen Himmel gewandt, dem Lichteinfall entgegen. Das Gemälde in starkem Hell-Dunkelkontrast nach dem um 1625/30 entstandenen Werk von Guido Reni in der Galleria Spada in Rom. Farbverluste. (13300575) (2) (13)
