Gemäß Ex 14,21-26 stellt Jordaens in diesem Bild das Zusammenfließen des Schilfmeeres nach dem Durchzug des Volkes Israel dar und die Ägypter, die von den Fluten übermannt werden. Im Linken Vordergrund ist das gerettete Volk Israel dicht gedrängt zu sehen, während rechts bis in den Hintergrund die Ägypter zu sehen sind, die unter den Fluten des Schilfmeeres versinken, das von direkt am Ufer stehenden Moses hervorgerufen wird.
Maler möglicherweise in Delft, Sohn von Hans Jordaens oder in Antwerpen als ein Verwandter des Jacob Jordaens geboren. Es ist bekannt, dass er die Staffagefiguren für Abraham Gowaerts malte. (13403075) (13)
