Als Trompe l‘oeil gebildete Camaieu-Kartuschen mit Rollwerk bzw. mit Puttodekor umspielt von einer Blütengirlande bzw. von einer solchen aus Frucht-Blüten-Komposition. Darin einmal eine Venus-Adonis-Gruppe – ein Derivat aus der Komposition Tizians, wie sie etwa im Prado in Madrid, im Metropolitan Museum in New York oder auch in der National Gallery in London verwahrt wird – bzw. ein liebendes Paar mit Amorknabe. Rahmen minimal besch.
Der Maler war um 1615 Schüler seines Onkels Osias Beert d. Ä. (um 1580-1623/24), von dem er auch die spezielle Stilllebenauffassung mit vereinzelt im Bild nebeneinandergestellten Objekten übernommen hat. Kein geringerer als Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), ein Freund des Malers, erwarb mehrere seiner Stillleben, die heute im Rubenshaus in Antwerpen gezeigt werden. Frans Ykens hielt sich in den Jahren 1630/31 in Frankreich auf, wurde anschließend Mitglied der Malergilde Sankt Lukas in Antwerpen.
