Das Gemälde im typischen Erscheinungsbild der vergleichbaren Werke des Malers.
Spezialisiert auf Blumenstilleben, hatte Recco fast ausschließlich einen dunklen, eher schwarzen Hintergrund gewählt. Nicht selten auch legte er Wert auf unterschiedlichste Vasen- und Gefäßformen. In vorliegendem Gemälde entwickelt sich das farbenprächtige Bukett aus einer ovalen, weißglasierten und blau bemalten Vase mit eingezogenem vergoldetem Fuß. Neben dunkleren Grüntönen der Blätter überwiegen die Farben Rot und Weiß für die Blüten. Eine zentral gesetzte weiße Rosenblüte korrespondiert zur Vase, wird jedoch fast ausschließlich von roten Blumen, wie Tulpen, Riesenanemonen und Fingerhut umgeben. Nach den Seiten und oben hin zeigen sich die Blüten aufgelockert.
Erst 1961 hat sich der Kunstexperte Raffaello Causa mit dem Werk Reccos auseinandergesetzt und damals ein zuvor Giovanni da Udine zugewiesenes Stillleben („Die Blumenvase des Cardinale Poli“) dem Werk Reccos gegeben, wie auch die „Blumenvase der Spada-Familie“. Zudem hat sich Giuseppe De Vito mit dem Maler beschäftigt. 1984 hat Antonio Delfino eine Dokumentation zum Maler zusammengestellt.
Werke der Hand Reccos befanden sich im Eigentum von Ferdinando II. de´ Medici, heute im Museum des Palazzo Pitti in Florenz: „Vase mit Tulpen, Anemonen und Kaiserkronen“ von 1626. 1997 wurde ein Stillleben seiner Hand bei Christie´s New York verauktioniert.
