Im Maastrichtium der Oberkreidezeit entstand dieses Horn des Triceratops, wobei am Ende dieser chronostratigrafischen Stufe das größte weltweite Massenaussterben der Erdgeschichte, bei der alle Nichtvogel-Dinosaurier starben, folgte. Der Triceratops konnte zwischen 6-12 Tonnen schwer werden und bis zu 9 Metern Länge erreichen. Es konnte bisher noch kein vollständiges Skelett gefunden werden, sodass auch das hier vorgestellte einzelne eindrucksvolle Horn eine wichtige Ergänzung für das Wissen um den größten Vertreter der Ceratopsidae darstellt. Neben einem kleinen Nasenhorn auf dem Nasenbein verfügte das Tier auch über Auswüchse des Postorbitale, die die Überaugenhörner bildeten, von denen wir hier eines anbieten. (†)

A triceratops could weigh 6-12 tons and reach a length of up to nine meters. No complete skeleton has been found to date, so that the single impressive horn on offer for sale here is an important addition to the knowledge of the largest representative of the Ceratopsidae. (†)
