Das Gemälde zeigt eine Szene aus Torquato Tassos 1581 erschienenem Hauptwerk „Das befreite Jerusalem“. Sophronia gab vor ein Marienbild von den Muslimen geraubt zu haben, um die verdächtigten Christen zu schützen. Als sie zum Tod auf dem Scheiterhaufen verurteilt wird, bekennt sich ihr Geliebter Olindo zu der Tat, worauf Aladin, der König von Jerusalem, den Flammentod Beider befiehlt. Hernach werden beide von Clorinde durch einen Apell beim König befreit. Minimal besch.
