Schwerer Bronzehohlguss, olivbraune Patina. Die Tiergestalt in gebückt-liegender Haltung mit hochschwingendem Schweif, der als Henkel fungiert. Körperformen eines Löwen mit Pranken, der Kopf mit weit geöffnetem Maul, das als Dochttülle fungiert, mit Bockshörnern. Der Rücken weist Knorpel auf, die dem sogenannten „Knorpelstil“ der Renaissance entsprechen. Die Lampe wurde eher im Sinne eines Kunstobjektes geschaffen, weniger zur tatsächlichen Nutzung, weswegen auch ein Einfüllloch fehlt.
Von dem Objekt sind mehrere Güsse bekannt. Das Victoria and Albert Museum erwarb 1857 ein Exemplar, als „florentinisch des 16. Jahrhunderts“ wurde es im Katalog 1876 aufgeführt, später jedoch von Bode als „venezianisch um 1575“ klassifiziert. Ein weiteres Exemplar gelangte in die Robert H. Smith-Collection, katalogisiert und ausführlich beschrieben von Antony Radcliffe und Nicolas Penny, ehemals Sotheby´s, London, 1980 (Katalogbeschreibung beigegeben). A.R. (12912410) (11)
