Wie in manchen anderen Gemälden Wijnants’, wie etwa im Oldenburger Landesmuseum, erhebt sich in der rechten Hälfte ein sandiger Hügel, der von Bäumen hinterfangen ist, davor eine Baumruine, der das Gemälde seine vertikale Akzentuierung verdankt.
