Kalkstein, Reste alter Bemalung. A.R. (1291918)
Large gothic Madonna and child stone figure
Height: 126 cm.
Width: 55 cm.
Depth: 33 cm.
Champagne, ca. 1500.
Several comparative examples can be mentioned for this work: for example the “Magdalene” figure from Troyes, 16th century, held at the Neuteling Collection; or the “Madonna and Child” in Reims, maison natale de Saint-Jean-Baptiste-de-La-Salle, last quarter of the 15th century; but – as far as the child‘s posture is concerned – above all the “Vierge à l‘Enfant”, in limestone ca. 1520, formerly G. Wildenstein collection, now in the Louvre.
