Prachtvolle Louis XVI-Deckelvase in Porphyr

Der nahezu halbkugelige Vasenkörper in schwerer Ausführung in rotsprenkeligem ägyptischem Porphyr, an der Oberseite gekehlt, mit darin einliegendem vergoldetem Flechtband. Den Sockel bilden vier auf Delfinen reitende Putti, verbunden durch hängende Blattfestons, in vergoldeter Bronze. Dazwischen mittig eine nach unten hängende Blattknospe. Der Oberrand wulstig gerundet, darin eingelegt der mittig sich leicht nach oben wölbende Deckel, mit Kugelknauf und ebenfalls vergoldeter Blattrosette. Magnificent Louis XVI carved porphyry lidded vase

Height: 35.5 cm.
Maximum width of foot: 28 cm.
France, end of the 18th century.

The heavy, almost hemispherical vase body is carved in red-speckled, Egyptian porphyry, fluted on the top and inlaid with gilt braided ribbon. Four putti riding on dolphins connected by trailing gilt-bronze foliage festoons create the base.
