JEPHTHAH AND HIS DAUGHTER
Oil on canvas.
73 x 53 cm.
Signed lower left, titled on reverse.
In dark patinated wooden frame.

It was certainly because Trillhaase grew up in a bourgeois religious merchant family in Erfurt that he chose this subject, in which Jephthah’s daughter greets the victorious army. Restored.

Inspired by Otto Pankok to paint, Trillhaase exhibited variously, but was banned from painting by the National Socialists in 1933 as a so-called degenerate artist.
