Jesus steht linksseitig im hellen Gewand und hat dieses mit seiner rechten Hand zur Seite gezogen, um so sein Wundmal frei zu legen. Der vor ihm stehende ungläubige Thomas, in gelblichem Gewand, steht leicht vorgebeugt und stößt mit seinem Zeigefinger weit hinein in die Wunde. Hinter ihm stehend, vor dunklem Hintergrund, zwei weitere Jünger, die das Geschehen aufmerksam betrachten. Kopie in der für Caravaggio typischen Manier mit starken Hell-Dunkel-Kontrasten, wobei insbesondere das Gewand und der Körper Christi hier durch die Beleuchtung aus nicht sichtbarer Quelle herausgestellt werden. Rest., kleinere Retuschen, teils leichter Farbabrieb.
Anmerkung:
Der ungläubige Thomas ist eines der berühmtesten Gemälde von Caravaggio. Das 107 x 146 cm große Gemälde hängt heute in der Bildergalerie im Park des Schlosses Sanssouci in Potsdam und dürfte zwischen 1601 und 1603 entstanden sein. (1261431) (18)
