Beigegeben eine Expertise von Prof. Giancarlo Sestieri vom 8. Februar 2008 in Kopie, dem natürlich der inspirative Zusammenhang mit der römischen Architektur nicht entgangen ist, die in dem vorliegenden Gemälde mit einer flämischen „Kermesse“ vermengt ist, es wurden also zwei Kulturen verschmolzen. Sestieri weist auf einige weitere Marktgemälde aus der Hand von Erasmus de Bie hin, welche sich unter anderem in Brüssel befinden.
Erasmus de Bie arbeitete von 1641 bis zu seinem Tode 1675 in Antwerpen und war schon 1641 Wijnmijster (Sohn eines Meisters) in der Sankt Lukasgilde. In dieser Zeit war er auch Schüler von David Rijckaert III. (1250861) (2) (13)
