Erd- und Himmelsglobus. Erdglobus mit der Beschriftung „Globe alassique / nouvelle édition par Ch. Dien / médaille d’argent / revu en 1849 / Sauret-Andriveau / successeurs / rue des Beaux-arts 8“. Der zugehörige Himmelsglobus beschriftet „Dressé par Ch. Dien / Paris / Sauret-Andriveau succ / rue des Beaux-Arts 8“. Der Globenmacher und Kartograph Charles Dien (1809-1870) arbeitete in der Rue des Beaux Arts 8, Paris. Beide Globen in aufwändig gestalteten dreibeinigen Louis XV-Ständern mit Rokoko-Profilen, Blütenschnitzereien und volutierenden Füßen, die durch einen dreiseitigen Mittelsteg verbunden sind. Äquatorialabdeckplatte in Messing mit Longitudinalskalierung und Himmelrichtung graviert, darauf jeweils ein aufmontierter kleiner Kompass mit Glasabdeckung. Die Gestelle fein geschnitzt und vergoldet. Die Globen partiell berieben.
Anmerkung:
Der bedeutende Kosmograph Charles Dien wurde am 9. Februar 1809 in Paris geboren und ist ebenda am 29. November 1870 gestorben. Dien hat sich intensiv mit der Konstruktion von Himmelskugeln beschäftigt und hat dieser Kunst durch die Erfindung von Hilfslinien parallel zum Äquator sowie den Ersatz von Metallgloben durch Papiergloben zu entscheidendem Fortschritte verholfen. A pair of an earth and a celestial globe. The etched map of earth is signed and inscribed by the manufacturer “GLOBE / Classique / Nouvelle Edition par / CH. Dien / Paris”. The matching celestial globe is inscribed “Dressé / par CH. Dien / Paris”. The map of earth shows that the globes were created before the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869.
The stands are finely carved and gilt. Globes rubbed in places.
