FINE PARK SCENE WITH VARIOUS BIRDSOil on canvas. Relined.
176 x 105 cm.
Monogrammed or signed illegibly on lower left on a shadowy stone.
Carved wood Rococo frame, in parts with openwork and gilt and with mounting holes in places. The depiction is particularly reminiscent of works by Willem van Royen, but as the signature in the painting on offer for sale in this lot cannot be identified with certainty the painting may also have been executed by another student of Hondecoeter.
Noter:
Van Royen was a student of Melchior de Hondecoeter (1636-1695), and his paintings share a lot of similarities. He enjoyed painting depictions with parks, as can be seen in one of his paintings with a cockatoo and various parrots in a park which is inscribed “W. van Royen” and dated “1727” (RKD no. 239778).
This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
