STILL LIFE WITH GRAPES, QUINCES AND WALNUTS
Oil on canvas. Relined.
68.5 x 96 cm.
In Baroque-style gilt frame.
We thank Dr Fred Meijer for his kind support cataloging the art work, dating the work into the 1640s.
The present painting is consistent with the oeuvre of Jacob Foppens van Es and compares easily with a less elaborate composition titled Still life with Grapes and Walnuts held at The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, inventory no. 790, or Still life with a Basket of Quinces, Grapes and Walnuts sold at Christie’s on 31.05.1979, lot 80. A painting by the artist held at Staatliche Museen in Berlin with inventory no. 1746 also compares well with regards to the objects depicted here as well as the expansive depiction of the grapevine leaves.
This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
