Wie bei Lukas (Lk 24,13-35) berichtet wird, seien Kleopas und ein weiterer Jünger nach Pessach in niedergeschlagener Stimmung von Jerusalem nach Emmaus gegangen, wo sie dem auferstandenen Jesus begegneten, diesen jedoch erst erkannten, als er beim Abendmahl das Brot brach, woraufhin sie noch am selben Abend nach Jerusalem zurückgingen, um den Aposteln und den anderen Jüngern von der Begegnung zu berichten. Interessanter Einblick in eine zeitgenössische Küche mit Rauchfang und Tellerbuffet. Rechts der Ausblick mit der scheinbar nebensächlichen Darstellung der drei biblischen Personen, in einer Gartenlaube sitzend. Über ihnen ein Blätterkranz als Zeichen für den dargestellten Gasthof.
