Goldene Rechteckdose, die Wandung kehlig eingezogen, in massivem Gold mit Arabeskendekoration auf schwarzem Emailgrund. Auf dem Deckel, in polychromen Email, das fürstliche Wappen auf Hermelin mit rotem Fürstenhut, dreiteilig mit Reiter, Malteserkreuz sowie stehenden Hunden.
Anmerkung:
Die Familie Galitzin war ein russisches Fürstengeschlecht. Einer der Nachkommen des Stammvaters Großfürst Gediminas soll aufgrund seiner starken Lederhandschuhe (golitza) den Beinamen Golizyn (sprich Galizyn) erhalten haben, welcher auf seine Nachkommen überging. Die Fürstenfamilie hat zahlreiche bedeutende Persönlichkeiten des öffentlichen Lebens, sowohl in Politik als auch in Bereichen der Kultur und Wissenschaft, hervorgebracht. Das Fürstengeschlecht ist litauischer Abstammung, dessen Ahnherr auch Stammvater der Jagelonen und des Fürstenhauses Trubezkoi war. Die weit verzweigten zahlreichen Familienmitglieder wurden in Folge der Oktoberrevolutionen 1918 größtenteils hingerichtet oder gingen ins Exil. In der Sowjetuntion überlebte nur eine Person, heute leben mehr Familienmitglieder in den USA als in Russland.

Geneva, ca. 1820 - 1830.
Gold; wrought, cast, chased and niello decoration. Cover with polychrome enamel depicting the coat of arms of the noble House of Golitsyn.
Notes:
The Golitsyn Family was a princely Russian House with many of its members being important public personalities in politics, in the cultural and scientific fields.
