Vor dunklem Grund zeichnet sich auf einer nur knapp angedeuteten roten Tischplatte eine violette Balustervase mit weißen Blüten sowie ein grüner Cachepot mit Untersatz und Weihnachtstern ab. Dieser dominiert das Bild in seinem rot-schwarzen Zweiklang. Johannes Eichner, Münters Lebensgefährte, lernte 1952 den späteren Direktor der Städtischen Galerie im Lenbachhaus (von 1956-1971) Hans Konrad Roethel (1909-1982) kennen. Aus diesem Kontakt erwuchs eine enge Freundschaft, sodass es auch Roethel war, der 1956 als erster die Werke Münters und Kandinskys sehen durfte, die von Münter im Murnauer Haus vor den Nationalsozialisten versteckt worden waren. 1957 schenkte sie einen bedeutenden Teil dieser Sammlung an die Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus.
