Eisen, gegossen und patiniert. Diese Skulptur ist von hoher handwerklicher Qualität. Auf einer rechteckigen, ornamental verzierten Plinthe ruhend zeigt der aufgerichtete Drache das unvollständige Wappen einer großen Familie.
Ottomar Holdefleiss wurde in Salzmünde, Deutschland geboren. Er ließ sich zum Metallurgen ausbilden, wozu auch die Arbeit als Schlosser und Schmied gehörte. Er kam 1888 nach Berlin und gründete mit dem Schlosser Schulz die Firma Schulz & Holdefleiss, Fennstraße 13 in Wedding. Berlin florierte, die Aufträge strömten herbei und das Unternehmen hatte schon bald 300 Mitarbeiter.
1896 gewann Schulz & Holdefleiss auf der Berliner Messe die Goldmedaille mit der lebensgroßen Brunnenfigur eines knienden Ritters mit den Gesichtszügen Bismarcks. Auf der Weltausstellung 1900 in Paris wurde der Ausstellungsbereich der deutschen Textilindustrie mit Werken des Unternehmens dekoriert.
Von 1903 bis 1904 ließ Holdefleiss auf einem mehr als 5.000 m² großen Grundstück in der Adelheidallee, unweit des Gutshofes Tegel, eine Villa des Architekten Julius Wendler errichten. Der sorgfältig entworfene schmiedeeiserne Gartenzaun ist erhalten geblieben.

Iron; cast and patinated. This sculpture is of high artisan quality. An upright dragon is showing the incomplete coat of arms of a great family is mounted on a rectangular plinth with ornamental décor. Ottomar Holdefleiss was born in Salzmünde, Germany. Flaws, one part attached with wire for unknown reason.
