Dargestellt ist der zentral in seiner Rüstung kniende Wilhelm von Aquitanien (um 745-28. Mai 812), zu seiner Linken Benedikt von Aniane, welcher ihn als Mönch aufnimmt. Zu seiner Rechten das Gefolge. Das Gemälde ist eine reduzierte Werkstattwiederholung nach dem größeren Gemälde (345 x 230 cm), welches Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, gen. Guercino, für die Kapelle Locatelli in der Kirche San Gregorio in Bologna ausführte. Das größere Original befand sich ab 1796 in Paris und ist seit 1816 oder 1817 wieder in Bologna, jedoch in der Pinacoteca zu bewundern. Rest. (1240269) (13)
