Notes:
The French painter is associated with the circle of the Fauves. He settled in Paris in 1896 to study at the workshop of Gustave Moreau (1826-1898), where he also met Albert Marquet (1875-1947). In 1902 he made the acquaintance of Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) and joined the group of the Fauves, however, he never became one of their staunch representatives.
