(1221809) (3) (11)
School of Central Italy, 16th century
ANNUNCIATION Oil on chestnut panel.
114 x 81.5 cm.
Unframed.
As is typical for Annunciation scenes Mary is shown sitting in front of a praying stool on the right, while a youthful angel dominates the left half of the painting approaching on colourful open wings. Stylistically, Late Renaissance elements are already obvious, for example in the praying stool. The colour scheme, such as in the garments, but also the light of the clouds in the upper centre already indicate Mannerism. Panel slightly warped.
