Die Maske wurde getragen während einer Beerdigungszeremonie von je einem Mann der teilnehmenden Gesellschaft von Jägern, welche neben dem Haus des Verstorbenen oder neben dem der Angehörigen standen und trommelten. Hierdurch sollte der Geist des Verstorbenen eingefangen werden, von dessen Entweichen schlimme Folgen für das Volk der Senufo angenommen wurden.
