Der Held aus dem griechischen Mythos, der Medusa, eine der drei Gorgonen besiegt hat, hält hier ihren Kopf triumphierend in der linken ausgestreckten Hand, rechts das Schwert. Das Original wurde von Antonio Canova (1757-1822) zwischen 1800 und 1801 geschaffen. Von dem ersten Eigentümer der Figur wurde sie von Papst Pius VII erworben und befindet sich heute im Vatikanischen Museum. Die hier kleiner dimensionierte Statue (Höhe des Originals: 212 cm) von hoher qualitativer Ausführung in reinweißem Carrara-Marmor, im Kontrapost auf mitgemeißelter rechteckiger Sockelplatte stehend. Die Klinge des Schwerts abgebrochen, jedoch vorhanden, mit ersetzbarer fehlender Spitze. (1221374) (11)
