Friedrich König war Gründungsmitglied der Wiener Secession und zählte zur Malerelite der Donaumonarchie um die Jahrhundertwende. Er gehörte der Gruppierung an, welche sich von der Gruppe um Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) abspaltete und als naturalistisch galt.
