Das Federvieh lebendig wiedergegeben, vor einem Holzgatter mit Ausblick rechts in abendliche Landschaft mit einem Lichtstreifen am Horizont. Die höchst qualitätvolle Malerei des italienischen Tier- und Stilllebenmalers wird gelegentlich mit Werken des Melchior de Hondecoeter (1636-1695) in Verbindung gebracht. Jedoch zeigt der Malstil hier den klaren Bezug zur norditalienischen Malerei sowohl in Relation zur betonteren Lockerheit des Farbauftrages als auch der Gegenstände im Hintergrund sowie der abendlichen Wolkenlandschaft rechts oben im Bild.
