Die beiden nebeneinanderstehenden altägyptischen Kolossalstatuen aus dem 14. Jahrhundert vor Christus im Mittelpunkt des Gemäldes. Sie befinden sich im weiten Niltal, in dem auch einige Beduinen ihre Zelte aufgeschlagen haben. Im Vordergrund sieht man zudem ein sitzendes Dromedar und rechts zwei weitere. Im Hintergrund der weite ansteigende Gebirgszug und weitere Tempelanlage mit einer kleinen Karawane. Die von nicht sichtbarer Stelle links einfallende Sonne wirft nur einen leichten Schatten. Das Bild strahlt Ruhe aus, die fast monochrom beigetonige Farbgebung verleiht den beiden Kolossen, die in einen durchgehend blauen Himmel ragen, Würde und besondere Aufmerksamkeit. (1190544) (18)
