Dem Gemälde ist eine Expertise von Pierluigi Carofano vom 28.09.2015 in Kopie beigegeben, der die Ikonogaphie mit den Meditationes vitae Christi des Pseudo-Bonaventura aus dem 14. Jahrhundert belegt und den Titel deshalb als Madonna del Velo festlegt. Somit hebt er die zeitlich versetzte Darstellung des kindlichen Jesusknaben und des bereits gestorbenen Jesus hervor.

Auf einem Kanapee der unbekleidete Jesusknabe liegend, hinter ihm steht Maria, die die gesamten oberen zwei Drittel des Bildraumes einnimmt und ein Velum über ihr Kind legt. Sie in den typischen Farben gewandet. Die linke obere Ecke mit dem kaum erkennbaren Gesicht des Josef gefüllt, während die obere rechte Ecke mit Blattwerk dekoriert ist.
Carofano sieht den Bezug zu Raphael (1483 – 1520) und Sebastiano del Piombo (um 1485 – 1547). Die zierliche Gestalt des Jesuskindes stehe im Kontrast zur gigantischen monumentalen Malerei der Jungfrau Maria. Er hebt besonders die Schönheit der Darstellung der Haare des Jesuskindes hervor, welche sich in den Quasten der Liege wiederfinden. Formal restaurierter Vertikalriss. Rückwärtig altparkettiert. A copy of the expert’s report by Pierluigi Carofano dated 28 September 2015 is enclosed confirming the painting’s iconography with the Meditationes vitae Christi by Pseudo-Bonaventura from the 14th century and therefore determines its title as Madonna del Velo. Carofano sees a connection with Raphael (1483 – 1520) and Sebastiano del Piombo (ca. 1485 – 1547). He points out the beautiful execution of the Christ Child’s hair, as well as the tassels of the sofa. Formally restored vertical crack. Old parquetting on the reverse.
