Im Zentrum der Darstellung Maria mit dem Kind, das sich zum Ziehvater Josef nach links umwendet, rechts die Heilige Anna. Von links unten blickt der in ein Schaffell gekleidete Johannesknabe zum Kind herauf. Das Gesicht der Madonna in besonderer Anmut wiedergegeben, durchaus mit den Frauengestalten Correggios vergleichbar. Die Hauptfiguren Maria und Kind betont ins Sfumato gesetzt, die weiteren Figuren klarer konturiert. Der Lichteinfall von links oben betont hauptsächlich die beiden Hauptfiguren im Zentrum.
