Unter hohem Himmel mit großen weißen Wolken, der fast zwei Drittel des Bildes einnimmt, sieht man am linken Ufer eines weiten Flusses einen regen Pferdehandel. Ein Mann mit Dreispitz ruft gerade einen edlen Schimmel vor einer versammelten Gruppe und zwei Reitern auf. Auf seiner rechten Seite werden bereits die ersten Pferde in einem Boot abtransportiert.
