Das große Format zeigt ein Ruinen-Capriccio in italienischer Landschaft, die durch zahlreiche Personen belebt wird. An einem Herkulesbrunnen entnehmen Frauen Wasser. Das Gemälde gliedert sich hervorragend in eine Reihe von Gemälden des genannten Malers ein, welche überliefert sind. Eine ähnliche Brunnenszene (jedoch etwas kleiner und mit 1662 datiert) wurde am 23.03.2000 unter Los 12 bei Tajan in Paris angeboten. Auch ein Gemälde, welches am 7.04.2006 im Dorotheum in Wien unter Los 176 von Martinus de la Court (1640-1710) ist nicht zu weit von dem hier angebotenen Gemälde entfernt. (1160271) (2) (13)

A similar scene by a fountain (but a little smaller and dated 1662) was offered for sale on 23 March 2000, lot 12 at Tajan in Paris. Another painting offered for sale 7 April 2006 at Dorotheum in Vienna, lot 176 here described as by "Martinus de la Court" shows similarities with the painting on offer for sale in this lot.
