1733 Paris – 1808 ebenda
Der als Ruinenmaler bekannt gewordene Künstler wirkte elf Jahre in Rom, wo er unter anderem auch Giovanni Paolo Painini (1691-1765) und Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1878) kennengelernt hatte. Er schuf in der Folge eine Reihe fantastischer Fantasiearchitekturen, Landschafts- bzw. Ruinencapriccios.

Die Ruine eines alten Tempels steht im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit, dieser mit korinthischen Säulen und bewachsen von einigen Pflanzen. An diesen und an der angrenzenden Mauer wurden einigen neuere Bauten hinzugefügt. Im Vordergrund rechts drei Frauen an einem Brunnen mit ägyptischer Statue beim Waschen ihrer Wäsche. Diese Damen und eine weitere auf einem Pferd leicht koloriert. (1160084) (2) (18)
