Fein gemalte Ansicht von der Südseite des Pearl Rivers, an welcher die Europäischen Handelsstützpunkte angesiedelt waren. Auf dem seichten Wasser zahlreiche exemplarisch dargestellte Boote und Schiffe, die Küste dicht gespickt mit Lagerhäusern. 1842 wurde der Opium Krieg zwischen Großbritannien und China beigelegt, worauf fünf Haupthäfen Chinas für den Handel mit Europa geöffnet wurden. Dies waren neben Kanton Amoy, Ningpo, Shanghai und Foochow. Kanton war das Zentrum des chinesischen Teehandels mit Europa: um 1794 kaufte Großbritannien vier Millionen Kilogramm Tee jährlich, wobei der Handel durch China strikt kontroliert wurde. Eine sehr ähnliche Ansicht von etwas geringerer Größe aus der Sammlung Charles Forte, Baron Forte of Ripley (1908 - 2007), wurde am 13. September 2017 in New York angeboten.
Eine weitere Ansicht mit ähnlichen Maßen wird unter Inventarnummer BHC1786 im National Maritime Museum, Greenwich in London aufbewahrt. (1141722) (13)
