Auf einem bildparallel angeordneten Tisch hat der Künstler dicht an den Betrachter heran gerückt. Eingeleitet wird die Komposition durch ein angebrochenes Brötchen am linken Bildrand, von dem einige Krumen um es herum zu liegen gekommen sind. Leicht aus der Mitte nach links verrückt steht ein feines Glas gefüllt mit Weißwein gefährlich nach an der Tischkante. Zwei offene Austern runden mit ihrem feucht glänzenden Fleisch die Komposition nach rechts ab. Im stark verdunkelten Hintergund sind noch weitere Schalen und Gegenstände schemenhaft zu erkennen. Sie werden jedoch überhaupt nicht vom starken Streiflicht des Vordergrundes getroffen.
Insgesamt kann das Stillleben dem in den Niederlanden weit verbreiteten Typus der Fastenstillleben zugerechnet werden. (1141745) (12)
