Der in Leiden geborene Niederländische Künstler war besonders für seine italianisierende Landschaften mit Figuren und Rindern bekannt die er in der Art des Nicolaes Pietersz Berchem 1620-1683) schuf. So wiederholen sich auch auf dem vorliegenden Gemälde einige Elemente die von Berchem her bekannt sind wie die junge Frau mit der Spindel in der Hand oder die Gruppe Rinder in der linken unteren Bildhälfte.
