(1141547) (2) (11)
Pieter Neeffs the Elder,
1578 Antwerp – ca. 1659, attributed
SAINT PETER IN DARK PRISON VAULTS
Oil on panel. Parquetted.
34 x 54 cm.
Signature by Neefs, monogram by David Teniers at the base of the square pillar. Old inventory label with handwritten inscriptions "P. Davidson", oval mark "H.W. Röhlich K. Hoflieferant Berlin. W." [Purveyor to the Court] on reverse.
Probably in collaboration with David Teniers (1610 - 1690), who painted the figures. In old catalogue descriptions the painting was mistakenly understood to be a church interior.
