Antonio Balestra,
1666 Verona – 1740 ebenda, zug.
Ballestra war Schüler von Antonio Bellucci und später von Carlo Maratta, dessen Stil auch seine Malerei prägte. 1695 gründete in seiner Heimatstadt Verona seine eigene Schule. Zu seinen Schülern zählten Rotari, Cignaroli sowie Mattia Bortoloni und Giambattista Pittoni. Sein unverwechselbarer Stil mit weich modulierten Körpern in meist gold leuchtendem Inkarnat ist auch in dem vorliegenden Bild deutlich spürbar.SAMSON UND DELILAH Öl auf Leinwand.

Delilah in Dreiviertelbildnis nach rechts sitzend wiedergegeben auf ihrem Schoß liegt der eingeschlafene Samson, dem sie soeben die Haare abschneidet, um seine Kraft zu nehmen.
