Dem Gemälde ist eine Expertise von Andrea Busiri-Vici, handschriftlich verfasst und ausgestellt 1987 mit Einordnung des Gemäldes in den Zeitraum um 1720.
Das Gemälde zeigt in höchst interessanter Weise das Interesse das 18. Jahrhunderts an den antik-römischen Artefakten. Im Zentrum des Bildes, sitzend und stehend, Zeichenblockstaffagefiguren, die ihr Augenmerk auf eine Philosophenfigur links oben vor kannelierten Säulen gerichtet haben. Rechts ein Baum als Repoussoir, dahinter eine weitere Sphinxfigur auf hohem Sockel. Im Mittelgrund ein Flusslauf, dahinter bergige Anhebung. (1131701) (5) (11)
