Der Maler ist in den Künstlerviten des Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574) erwähnt, wobei als heiteres Detail hervorgeht, dass er als Werkstattsgefährte des Malers Giovanni Antonio Bazzi, genannt "Sodoma" (1477-1549), während dessen Erkrankung Werke aus der Werkstatt entwendet hat.CHRISTUS TRÄGT DAS KREUZ Öl auf Pappelholz. Dem Gemälde ist eine ausführliche Beschreibung und Interpretation von Alessandro Nesi beigegeben mit mehreren Vergleichsbeispielen von nahezu identischen Bildauffassungen, aber auch Vorbildern des Lehrers Sodoma, Gemälde, die sich in den Uffizien, Florenz, im Palazzo D'Arco, Mantua oder in Siena in der Kollektion Chigi Saracini befinden.
Das Tafelbild zeigt den kreuztragenden Jesus in Nahansicht. Die Komposition setzt bewusst auf eine Diagonale von links oben nach rechts unten, wobei der rechte Arm Christi eine Gegenbewegung bildet. Beide Hände über den Kreuzbalken gelegt, über der Stirn markant gemalt die Dornenkrone, die Augen halb geschlossen.
