Französischer Maler, Studium an der École des beaux-arts in Paris, zusammen mit Frédéric Bazille (1841–1870). In den 1880er-Jahren widmete er sich vorwiegend Neorenaissance-Themen aber auch Genrebildern, die er im Salon von 1861 bis 1885 ausstellte. Beide Damen in eleganten Seidenkleidern, hinter einem, in zarten Formen geschmiedeten Balkonbrüstungsgitter, das in Anspielung auf das Thema ein geschmiedetes Herz, von Pfeilen durchbrochen, im Zentrum der Rocaille führt. Eine der Damen hält einen roten Drehkreisel, den sie mit einem feinen roten Faden in Bewegung setzt. Gleichzeitig lauscht sie aufmerksam den Worten ihrer Partnerin. Im Hintergrund ist aus dem Interieur ein dunkler Gobelin zu erkennen. (1120568) (11)


Louis Émile Villa,
1836 – 1900
French painter, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, together with Frédéric Bazille (1841 - 1870). Since the 1880s, he predominantly painted Neo-Renaissance subjects but also genre scenes that were exhibited at the Salon between 1861 and 1885.

TWO YOUNG LADIES WITH A SPINNING TOP AT A BALCONY

Both ladies are shown in elegant silk dresses behind a delicately wrought iron balcony balustrade in heart shapes interspersed by pillars and a rocaille ornament at centre – no doubt in reference to the depicted subject.
