Das Gemälde großformatig, die Figuren in Lebensgröße wiedergegeben. In Andeutung einer dunklen nächtlichen Landschaft, wird die Begegnung von Erminia, die bei den Hirten Hilfe sucht, dargestellt. Der Szene liegt eine Episode aus Torquato Tassos "Das befreite Jerusalem" zugrunde. Das Gemälde in betonter Hell-Dunkel-Manier ausgeführt, wohl ehemals Ausstattung eines großen höfischen Palastsaales, möglicherweise Teil einer Folge weiterer Darstellungen. (1120862) (130800) (11)
