DIE VERFÜHRUNG DER ANTIOPE DURCH ZEUS, IN EINEN FAUN VERWANDELT Öl auf Kupfer.
34,5 x 43,4 cm.
Rechts unten schwer leserlich signiert und datiert. Auf der Rückseite des Gemäldes in roter Ölfarbe Schablonenaufschrift "R" mit darüberstehender Krone. Ferner eine weitere Inventarnummer "No. 20". Auf dem Rahmen gedruckter und handschriftlich bezeichneter Aufkleber der Fideikommiss-Galerie, Katalog Eisenmann, sowie blauer Aufkleber mit einer Sammlungs- oder Seriennummer "198", monogrammiert "H.G.".
Dem Gemälde ist eine ausführliche Expertise mit Dokumentation von Dr. Stella Rudolph, Florenz, aus dem Jahre 2006 beigegeben mit dem Vermerk, dass das Gemälde in die vorbereitete Monographie aufgenommen wird.
Die Szene geht auf die griechische Legendenbildung zurück. Durch den römischen Schreiber Ovid in seinen "Metamorphosen" überliefert und seit der Renaissance immer wieder in Bildwerken thematisiert. Die schöne Antiope, nur mit einem blauen Tuch bekleidet, liegt nach links hingelagert auf weißem Kissen mit einem aufgespanntem Tuch vor einer Baumgruppe. Sie wird umgeben von vier Eroten. Armor mit Pfeil und Bogen über ihrem Haupt schwebend. Von rechts hat sich ein Satyr angenähert, in den sich der Göttervater Zeus verwandelt hat. Zarte Farbigkeit, lediglich durch das Blau und Rot der Tücher sowie das leuchtende Grün in der Baumkrone kontrastiert. Mit feiner Lichtführung von links oben.

Gemälde aus bedeutender Provenienz:
Das Gemälde entstammt dem Königshaus von Hannover, der betreffende Teil der Sammlung wurde in Schloss Marienburg zusammengeführt. Entsprechend wurde das Gemälde mit weiteren Werken in dem 1905 erschienenen Katalog "Eisenmann" unter Nummer 294 aufgeführt, als Gemäldenummer 225 der "FIDEIKOMISS-GALERIE". Die Gemälde, und somit auch das vorliegende, wurden von Ferdinand Albrecht II Prinz von Braunschweig und Lüneburg (1680-1735) erworben, gingen dann in den Besitz von Ernst August II (1771-1851) und nach 1905 in diversen Privatbesitz über. 34.5 x 43.4 cm.
Lower right poorly legible signed and dated. Stencilled letter "R" surmounted by a crown in red oil paint on the reverse of the painting, and also inventory number "No.20". Printed and handwritten label on the frame by the "Fideikommiss-Galerie" [entail gallery], Eisenmann catalogue, and blue label including a collection or serial no. "198" and monogrammed "H.G.".
Accompanied by a detailed expert's report with documentation by Dr Stella Rudolph, Florence, dated 2006. The report notes that the painting will be included in the upcoming monograph.
The painting depicts a scene from Greek mythology and passed on by the Roman author Ovid in his Metamorphoses.
The painting is of important provenance:
It originates from the Royal House of Hanover with the respective part of the collection being joined at Marienburg Castle. The painting was listed together with other works in the "Eisenmann" catalogue published in 1905 with no. 294 and as painting no. 225 of the "FIDEIKOMISS-GALERIE" [entail gallery]. Ferdinand Albrecht II Prince of Braunschweig and Lüneburg (1680 - 1735) purchased the paintings including the work on offer for sale in this lot. The painting was then property of Ernst August II (1771 - 1851) and, after 1905, purchased and sold by various private collectors.
This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
