Das Gemälde zeigt eine besondere und seltene Darstellung aus Homers Odyssee. Zu sehen ist der Moment, in dem Odysseus der Ithaka verlässt, um in Troia im Krieg zu kämpfen. Er lässt seinen Sohn Telemachos bei seiner Frau Penelope und dem Vater Laertes, während zwei Mägde mit Argo, dem Jagdhund des Königs, dabei zuschauen. Das Gemälde ist wahrscheinlich um 1630 zu datieren, als Manettis Naturalismus beeinflusst durch Caravaggio dekorativer wird. (1110861)
