Der in seiner Zeit sehr erfolgreiche Maler Felice Boselli spezialisierte sich auf die Wiedergabe von Küchenstillleben. Seine Ausbildung hatte er bei Panfilo oder Michelangelo Nuvolone (1619-1703) in Mailand erhalten und bezog seine Inspiration von Gemälden von Künstlern wie Evaristo Baschenis (1617-1677) oder Giuseppe Recco (1634-1695).
Das vorliegende großformatige Gemälde gibt das Interieur eines Fleischerladens wieder, in dem zahlreiche Stücke unterschiedlicher Tiere liegen oder an der Wand befestigt sind, in flottem Duktus ausgeführt und in pastoser Malerei auf die Leinwand gegeben. Die Szene wird bevölkert durch einen Herrn und zwei Kinder, wobei der kleine Knabe rechts unten in der Bildecke dem Betrachter keck entgegenblickt und der etwas ältere Junge mit dem Mann über die unterschiedlichen Fleischsorten zu diskutieren scheint. Das Gemälde in flottem sicheren Duktus ausgeführt.

In his day a very successful still life artist, Boselli specialised in painting kitchen still lifes. The large-format painting on offer for sale here shows the interior of a butcher’s painted in swift, pastose brushstrokes.
