Corpus Christi wood carving
Height: ca. 104 cm.
Height of the cross: 125 cm.
Width: 107 cm.
15th century.

Three-nail type, straight upper body with parallel thighs only slightly cocked, covered by a loincloth hanging down on either side. The loincloth is modelled with flat bowl-shaped folds, running in parallel and his ribs are modelled equally flat. His head is inclined to the left, his hair is not modelled with deep cuts but was textured by the sculpture’s former polychromy. His slender arms are spread out, almost like a V shape, and his stigmata only show slightly textured blood flow. These characteristics, the striped painting of the loincloth and the soft modelling of the surface suggest that this work was created in the Veneto region during the 15th century.
Mounted on an acrylic cross. Polychromy largely preserved but probably retouched with darkened patina. Toes missing, mounting pins of former thorn crown still in place.

This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
